چکیده

Systems supporting the visualization and animation of algorithms, programs, and computations have focused primarily on two-dimensional graphics to date. In this paper we identify the need for three-dimensional graphics in these types of displays, and we describe how 3D imagery best can be used for visualizing computations. We also introduce an animation toolkit that supports simpliied development of 3D computation visualizations. A few examples of computation visualizations created with the toolkit are described and included. Our methodology, although speciically applied to computation visualization, is general-purpose and can be used to build a variety of 3D information visualizations and animations.

Advantages of using a ray-traced, three-dimensional rendering system for spectral domain Cirrus HD-OCT to visualize subtle structures of the vitreoretinal interface.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE To create a ray-traced, three-dimensional display system for Cirrus high-definition optical coherence tomography (Carl Zeiss Meditec, Inc., Dublin, CA) that improves the visualization of subtle structures of the vitreoretinal interface. PATIENTS AND METHODS High-definition optical coherence tomography (HD-OCT) data for epiretinal membranes (17 eyes), macular holes (11...

Parameterized Animation Compression

We generalize image-based rendering by exploiting texture-mapping graphics hardware to decompress ray-traced “animations”. Rather than 1D time, our animations are parameterized by two or more arbitrary variables representing view/lighting changes and rigid object motions. To best match the graphics hardware rendering to the input ray-traced imagery, we describe a novel method to infer parameter...

Machine-learned Contours to Assist Boundary Tracing Tasks

Our focus is to assist interactively in the initial segmentation of medical imagery. In nearreal-time, from an initial set of pixels traced, our system learns the characteristics of a contour being traced and projects ahead the trace. This paper provides an overview of our approach, presents promising results, and outlines our research directions.

Velocity Modeling in a Vertical Transversely Isotropic Medium Using Zelt Method

In the present paper, the Zelt algorithm has been extended for ray tracing through an anisotropic model. In anisotropic media, the direction of the propagated energy generally differs from that of the plane-wave propagation. This makes velocity values to be varied in different directions. Therefore, velocity modeling in such media is completely different from that in an isotropic media. The vel...

Realistic Reflections and Refractions on Graphics Hardware with Hybrid Rendering and Layered Environment Maps

We introduce hybrid rendering, a scheme that dynamically ray traces the local geometry of reflective and refractive objects, but approximates more distant geometry by hardwaresupported environment maps (EMs). To limit computation, we use a greedy ray path shading model that prunes the binary ray tree generated by refractive objects to form just two ray paths. We also restrict ray queries to tri...
